I have loved you in the quiet

I have loved you in the crowds

I have loved you long in silence

Even more so, out loud

I have loved you with conviction

I have loved you in gripping truth

I have loved you through the seasons

I have loved you with my youth

I have loved you more and more

And even just til today

As I sit by the grounds

Where we let our love lay

As it fizzles back in silence

As it settles into dust

You are everything I ever longed for

And everything I have just lost 

I will love you til the morning

Breaks its fragile dusk

I will carry all my longing

In rippled memories of us

I will love you til the mourning

I will see it til the end -

I will spread it in a warning:

Love is nothing but love spent

I have conquered most my troubles -

In greed, to hold you close

I have straddled all my demons -

Though weak, I fought across

I have rallied through the valley

And told them all, be damned

For all I know of love
