Fake Friends, Difficult Co-workers And Other Mishaps

“FAKE FRIENDS, DIFFICULT CO-WORKERS AND OTHER MISHAPS” EP. 12 SHOW NOTES FROM THE PODCAST:

Having fake friends can be so frustrating. One moment they’re nice and the next, they’ll be passive aggressively mean. How do you deal with these fake friends? What do you do if these fake friends are your co-workers or your boss? In this episode, we’ll discuss how to deal with fake friends and difficult co-workers with one of our favorite guests, Aaron Atayde.

How do you know that you’re dealing with a fake friend?

○ Fake friends are there for the perks of the friendship. When you start having problems, they’ll suddenly disappear.

There’s that kind of fake friend that disguises themselves as your friend. They’ll focus on playing on your highlights. They’re the ones that will snidely comment “Girl, iba ka na!” or “Girl, grabe ka!” at your achievements.

Fake friends have a passive aggressive way of putting their negativity at you because of their insecurities.

How do you deal with fake friends?

○ Always deal with curiosity before judgement. Ask yourself: Why are they acting this way? Why are you feeling this way? Try to understand before you let out your anger.

Pray about it. Write down your thoughts and process it all before you lay it down on the other person.

Once you processed your thoughts, talk to them. Use a reconcilable tone and deal with it as calmly as possible.

How do you deal with fake friends that are your co-workers?

○ Stay on your lane and deliver. As long as the person is not affecting your job, there’s no reason to be angry or confront them.

Don’t take it too personally. Part of adulting is putting your emotions aside and being results oriented.

Ask yourself: Is this argument worth losing your job? Is it worth it in the long run? Is this something I can solve without fighting?

○ However, if things are getting too toxic, do something about it. You can confront them first. If that doesn’t work out, bring two or three people with you to calmly talk about the situation. If that still does not work out, bring it up to the leaders.
