Intentional Dating vs. Modern Dating

What is intentional dating? How does it differ from modern dating? Can it really save us from heartbreaks in modern dating's infamous "GHOSTING"? On this episode, we talk about intentional dating’s effects and how this could make us happier, blessed, and lead directions to a more meaningful and successful relationship.

Modern dating and intentional dating as a Christian can differ in various ways, primarily due to the beliefs, values, and priorities associated with the Christian faith.

Key Differences:

1) Purpose and Goals

Modern dating often emphasizes casual or recreational dating, where individuals may date without a clear long-term commitment or marriage in mind. It can be more focused on personal fulfillment and enjoyment.

Intentional dating as a Christian typically involves dating with the intention of finding a life partner with whom to build a Christ-centered, lifelong relationship. The goal is often marriage and the pursuit of a God-honoring union.

2) Values and Boundaries

In modern dating, boundaries can be more fluid, and physical intimacy and sexual activity might be more common and accepted earlier in the relationship.

In intentional dating, there is often an emphasis on setting clear boundaries to maintain purity and avoid premarital sex. Many Christian couples choose to abstain from sexual activity until marriage.

3) Community and Accountability

Christian dating often involves seeking guidance and accountability from trusted friends, family, or church leaders. Community support and input are valued to ensure the relationship aligns with Christian values.

In modern dating, there may be less emphasis on seeking external advice or accountability, and individuals may rely more on personal decisions and peer advice.

4) Faith and Spirituality

Christian dating emphasizes shared faith and spiritual compatibility. Christians often seek a partner who shares their religious beliefs, values, and commitment to Christ.

Modern dating may or may not prioritize religious compatibility, and couples might come from various religious or non-religious backgrounds.

5) Communication and Conflict Resolution

Intentional Christian dating encourages healthy and respectful communication, as well as the resolution of conflicts in a way that aligns with Christian principles, such as forgiveness and reconciliation.

Modern dating may handle communication and conflict resolution differently, with varied approaches depending on individual preferences and relationship dynamics.

Note that not all Christians approach dating in the same way, and there can be variations in beliefs and practices even among Christian individuals and communities. The key difference is the emphasis on faith and commitment to God's guidance and principles in intentional dating.

Don’t rush into things that can get your heart broken.
