Mamba Forever

Why does death shock us so deeply,

When death is inevitable?

It sneaks up on you from behind,

Or slowly crawls its way towards you

It captures you at a moment you least expect,

Or it sits in front of you, ready to go at any time.

Death is inevitable,

But why is it so painful?

Why even in the most inspirational people,

Whose lives have been well lived,

Whose potentials have been fully realised,

Whose legacy still lives on,

Why does it still seem pointless?

I guess we were made to live forever

I guess these bodies were only meant to bring us closer

I guess to the forever we were once for designed

I guess these lives weren’t for us to label ‘mine’

I guess there’s eternity waiting on the other side

I guess that eternity’s bigger than we could think

I guess it’s something we’ll have to face when we die

I guess it happens as quickly as a blink

For the least of us will face death,

Just as equally as the greatest have to

And I pray that grace will abound on that day

For if not for it, what will see us through?

Today we mourn a death,

Just as some people did yesterday —

And as some of us will again, tomorrow

And the day after,

And the day after

Until death comes for us, too.

Then the days will no longer

Be filled with sorrow.
