Why Your Creativity Is More Powerful Than You Think…

In this episode, I’m joined by Lilianna and Gianne, two creatives who are passionate about using their God-given gifts for His glory. Together, we explore the intersection of faith and creativity, how God can transform brokenness into beauty, and the genuine struggles artists face when balancing vulnerability, excellence, and expectations.

What does it mean to be “Created to Create”?

Being created in God’s image means we carry His creativity in us. But as artists and creatives, we often wrestle with self-doubt, performance pressure, and the tension between excellence and vulnerability.

God can still use what we think is broken so that He would heal us and reveal Himself to us.

How to stay grounded as a Christian creative

1. Create from freedom, not fear

Instead of making art for approval, remember that your worth is already secure in Christ. This frees you to create with open hands without the burden of perfectionism. The more creative you want to get, the more loosened up your hands need to be.

2. Be excellent, not perfect

Excellence is about growth, discipline, and humility. It’s not about flawless execution; it’s about showing up and giving your best while relying on God’s grace.

Excellence is not about perfection. It’s about progression, humility, and being willing to learn.
— Lilianna Manahan

3. Embrace vulnerability in your art

True connection comes when you let people see your process and your imperfections. Vulnerability turns your art into a testimony that others can relate to.

How to balance excellence and faith

1. Practice your craft intentionally

Don’t just wait for inspiration, whether it’s songwriting, painting, or digital content creation. Put in the work, learn the skills, and steward your talent faithfully.

2. Surround yourself with mentors

Seek people who can sharpen your skills, keep you humble, and remind you of your “why.” Mentorship keeps you grounded and prevents burnout.

3. Stay anchored in your calling

When the numbers, views, or likes don’t come, go back to why you started: to glorify God with your creativity.

Encouragements for artists starting out

1. Start small but stay consistent

Don’t despise small beginnings. Faithfulness in the little things leads to growth.

2. Learn as you go

Every mistake is an opportunity to grow both in skill and in faith.

3. Don’t compare

Someone else’s timeline is not your own. God uses your unique story.

4. Find joy in the process

Worship isn’t just the finished product; it’s the act of creating with God.
